Green With Avocado Envy

I recently made fried avocados for a dinner party I was invited to. They were quite the hit. Dipping can come in all forms, I recommend:

Ketchup with a little sriracha sauce mixed in
Brianna's Honey Mustard (with the avocado on the label)
A warmed up cheese and cream sauce

Even the non-avocado obsessed attendees (I know, they're out there. Can you believe it?!) were obsessed !

recipe from The Food Network.

Lottie + Doof

I just stumbled upon Lottie + Doof. It is has a plethora of delicious looking recipes. Part of my summer treating-my-body-well is to cook alot! Lots of natural, fresh food. I am so intrigued by these apple jellies. They look so dainty and delicious... and seem surprisingly easy to make! The french onion soup also looks to die for... and please just read this blurb that goes along with the recipe...

I have been reading a lot lately about the trade war over Roquefort cheese—a trade war that was advanced by Bush in retaliation for France’s unwillingness to accept imports of hormone-containing beef from the US (and likely influenced by residual anti-France sentiment in the USA post-September 11th). In January, before leaving office, the Bush government imposed a 300% tariff (raising it from an already steep 100%) on the import of Roquefort, essentially stopping its sale in the US.

He goes on to talk about the global food trade and eating locally, another thing I'm going to try to get better about.

Carrot Juice

I drank carrot juice for the first time today. I don't think it will be going on my top-ten list, but I can see how a nice carrot-and-some-other-fruit juice could be tasty.

(Odd, but great memory: When I was younger, my cousins and I would sit around the big kitchen table in Cape Cod and whittle away the middles of baby carrots. We would have contests to see who's could be the thinnest. Em always won.)

One of my favorite things about carrots is the great crunch they make. Carrot juice does not crunch... just saying.

Breakfast Beauties

A few years worth of simple and healthy breakfasts

I think mornings are splendid. I am a fan of all sorts of them.
The 'early sunday mornings with a run out for coffee and the paper, followed by a big breakfast of pancakes with a household of guests is always a favorite of mine. It's fun when you have an expert pan-cake flipper and everyone is buzzing around the kitchen, chit-chatting and setting the table.
