Alice and A Spot of Tea

A Proper Tea is much nicer than a Very Nearly Tea,
which is one you forget about after wards.

“A map is the greatest of all epic poems. Its lines and colors show the realization of great dreams.” Gilbert Grosvenor.

“Try to learn to breathe deeply, really to taste food when you eat it, and when you sleep, really to sleep. Try as much as possible to be wholly alive, with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell, and when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough.”

William Saroyan

"I think if it's not magical, it's not going to happen, because all the other solutions I see around me-religious solutions, scientific solutions, intellectual solutions- you know, everything is too little too late and not good enough."
Woody Allen

Autumn

Early oozings

Unwise, probably, to start anticipating fall this early in the summer season, but I can’t wait for the day when a glass of ice water may stand upright on my desk without four napkins to soak up its sweat.

And it will be nice when mornings don’t have that haze to them that melts makeup and makes you look at 8 AM the way you normally do at five. Summer clothing, too, is a terrible thing to negotiate. The balance between comfort and propriety—now leaning dangerously in the direction of skimpy dresses and short-shorts—will return in fall to an easier compromise of covered limbs and garments that can be buttoned up.

Walks are better in fall. Apples too. The air smells better, time spent indoors is cozier, the sun feels more exceptional. There’s no point in pining, but something tells me I’m not pining quite yet— just testing the middle ground between yearning and anticipation.

Magic Molly, Found here.

Exactly how I am feeling right now. I am tired of the heat and humidity that plagues the city streets. I am excited to be back in Connecticut for a few weeks, laying in the green grass with a good book, driving down to the beach for a picnic and a late afternoon swim, playing tennis with mi madre and running around the gorgeous old park in my town (designed by famed Central Park man Frederick Law Olmstead), chilling with my yellow lab Milly, trips to the Umbrella Factory and an end of summer family reunion and cape cod visit…. Then back for the craziness that will be Senior year… at least there will be colorful leaves, hot chocolate runs, reading under a cozy blanket and sweater-weather to help a scattered mind out.

I think I'm going to have a dinner party where no one speaks. I'll give all my guests pens and pads instead of the usual dinner conversation.

"Everybody has a secret world inside of them. All of the people of the world, I mean everybody. No matter how dull and boring they are on the outside, inside them they've all got unimaginable, magnificent, wonderful, stupid, amazing worlds. Not just one world. Hundreds of them. Thousands maybe." -- Neil Gaiman
