Some of my recent Favorites from The Sartorialist. All beautiful, simple summer looks.

Have you got a Little Old House and a Lemon Tree?

Oof! Thank you Taza(I am also in love with her blog..) for this find.
I can't stop listening to it!

Fall

(no idea where i found these...)

Autumn

Early oozings

Unwise, probably, to start anticipating fall this early in the summer season, but I can’t wait for the day when a glass of ice water may stand upright on my desk without four napkins to soak up its sweat.

And it will be nice when mornings don’t have that haze to them that melts makeup and makes you look at 8 AM the way you normally do at five. Summer clothing, too, is a terrible thing to negotiate. The balance between comfort and propriety—now leaning dangerously in the direction of skimpy dresses and short-shorts—will return in fall to an easier compromise of covered limbs and garments that can be buttoned up.

Walks are better in fall. Apples too. The air smells better, time spent indoors is cozier, the sun feels more exceptional. There’s no point in pining, but something tells me I’m not pining quite yet— just testing the middle ground between yearning and anticipation.

Magic Molly, Found here.

Exactly how I am feeling right now. I am tired of the heat and humidity that plagues the city streets. I am excited to be back in Connecticut for a few weeks, laying in the green grass with a good book, driving down to the beach for a picnic and a late afternoon swim, playing tennis with mi madre and running around the gorgeous old park in my town (designed by famed Central Park man Frederick Law Olmstead), chilling with my yellow lab Milly, trips to the Umbrella Factory and an end of summer family reunion and cape cod visit…. Then back for the craziness that will be Senior year… at least there will be colorful leaves, hot chocolate runs, reading under a cozy blanket and sweater-weather to help a scattered mind out.

Tall Yellow Dress

I wonder where this dress is being taken out to?
I hope it is a romantic dinner in Venice, followed by a stroll through a magical garden with fairy lights all around. And fireflies...

Love

A homeless man on the street asked me for money today. When i told him I had none on me (true) he proceeded to say "That's okay hun, you have yourself a mighty fine day, maybe you'll find yourself a boyfriend today..." in the most upbeat tone.

I was left walking to the laundromat quite puzzled.

I love New York.

Diane von Furstenberg and Gloria Vanderbilt

I love everything about this video.
The old photos of Gloria.
Andersen Cooper.
Diane von Furstenberg.
Her turquoise earings.
Her honesty.
The fact that Gloria Vanderbilt wrote a book titled, Obsession: An erotic Tale.
That I passed the opening party for it at Diane's store on my way to a picnic on the hudson.
They are both such wonderful women.

Yinka Shonibare MBE

Going to see this show tomorrow at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.

This exhibition is a major midcareer survey of work by the UK-based Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare MBE. Shonibare’s artwork explores contemporary African identity and its relationship to European colonialism through painting, sculpture, installation, and moving image. Shonibare is best known for his work with visual symbols, especially the richly patterned Dutch wax fabric produced in Europe for a West African market that he uses in a wide range of applications. His tableaux of headless mannequins costumed in this fabric evoke themes of history and its legacy for future generations. Through these works he explores the complex web of interactions, both economic and racial, that reveal inequalities between the dominant and colonized cultures of Europe, Asia, and Africa. A site-specific installation created for this presentation titled Mother and Father Worked Hard So I Can Play will be on view in several of the Museum’s period rooms.

I am so psyched!

Vivien Leigh

A Streetcar Named Desire and Gone With the Wind are two of my favorites. I remember first seeing the latter on TV with my dear friend Andrea when we were in middle school. We took many many snack breaks but by the end both wanted to be Scarlett.
Found all of these photos of Vivien Leigh on her facebook fan page...
(this is for you Ju, because of your epic GWTW love...)

Boat-Living

Saw Whatever Works last week with my roommate. We both jumped when Randy Lee James said he lived on a houseboat on the hudson....I think that a boat will be my next place of residence in Manhattan. Somehow.

Fire Escapes and Balconies

I started sitting on my fire-escape recently, after dragging the ac out of the window. I love sitting out there, watching the world go by. There are groups of pigeons that will excitedly fly up through the intersection into the sky. It is also great when people sitting on the top of the tour buses realize there is someone out on a fire-escape. They start waving and/or snapping photos. Fifteen minutes of fame?

Jello

I think I'm going to have a dinner party where no one speaks. I'll give all my guests pens and pads instead of the usual dinner conversation.

Gemma Booth

Treasure Box from Gemma Booth on Vimeo.

Oh to play dress up. I used to have a huge basket with the most wonderful things. I would prance around the yard in different getups. I do wish I had a skeleton costume like that one though.

The Seven Year Itch

Went to see this last week downtown with a few friends. It was screened in a large outdoor courtyard space in the financial district, right along the East River. It was a great deal of fun. There is nothing like an outdoor movie in the summer to set yourself right, especially with the nice breeze coming off of the river. OOF!

Rachel Whiteread

I love Rachel Whiteread's giant chess set. I have been a bit obsessed with her work for quite some time now, but I had never seen this piece before.

[500] Days of Summer

Going to see this today!

(I have to admit, I sort of love a few rain predictions in the summer... It makes it feel more legitimate sitting inside the dark movie theater, since you are not wasting a sunny day.)

Update: Oh, so good!

Lisa Mayock

Read the lovely little interview with 1/2 of the team behind Vena Cava. I love reading about people and their interesting finds and routines. Ms. Mayock bought a bunch of lipstick from a Polish 99 cent store and keeps it in her freezer. How spectacular is that? I can just imagine them all lined up like little christmas soldiers...!

Twilight

I love this photo shoot of the cast of Twilight. The spot reminds me of the huge field I grew up near. And the light is just exquisite! So summery. See more photos here.
